It's been a long time (2)
I take my words back. Well, sort of, anyway. It wasn't 12 hours after I'd written this that I got onto the MRT once again.
The situation wasn't too different, but this time, the offender was a fat 10-year-old. Not that I've anything against fat 10-year-olds, of course. They've got enough to worry about as it is. An elderly lady got onto the train, an RI boy, after a moment of contemplation, decided to offer his seat, rather generously, to the reasonably able bodied looking lady. The moment the RI guy stood up, fat 10-year-old (henceforth, F10YO) made a beeline for the seat, and promptly plonked his erm, F10YO ass on the seat.
It's really not as simple as age then, it seems. It's upbringing. And it so happens that many of the guilty parties are in their high thirties. Perhaps then it makes sense that the F10YO's behave similarly, seeing how they are likely descendants of the line of callous 30-plus-olds (henceforth, C3PO).
I could go on with my Singaporean-bashing, but don't get me wrong, I'm not some anti-governmental revolutionary. But there are things that Singaporeans - and people in many other Asian countries - need to learn before we can finally be a gracious society. I've always been one against the White dominant colonial mindset, but I'll admit that there're several things that the Caucasians have over us - and that's all in the upbringing. Sad, but true.
