Just so I can demonstrate how much time I have...
I just caught another movie, a throwback to the era of not-so-special effects, Platoon, which is arguably what propelled Oliver Stone to fame. Nothing much to say about it, I really liked the earlier movie a lot more, but was fun seeing familiar faces like my very much loved Perry Cox, M.D., playing a spineless Sgt Red O'Neill. Also, was a little odd seeing a young Johnny Depp speaking Vietnamese (or whatever the people in Vietnam speak). Made me wonder if he actually knew what he was saying, or whether he was just spouting random syllables.
The portrayal of the Vietcong was a little insulting though, as the only 'congs you got to see were really small, and had really high pitched, irritating war cries. Pretty much all they got to say throughout the whole movie was a very nasal "Yaaaaaarghhh".
Perhaps testament to how good the movie is is that I actually sat through the entire thing. If you know me well enough, you might know that I don't like movies that have lousy pictures, which pretty much automatically disqualifies most movies from before 1990. By my own admission, I've never finished watching a single black and white film. Ever. The closest I've come to one was Citizen Kane, which I've watched half of, in 2 sittings! And mind you, Citizen Kane's a real classic. I guess I'm just shallow like that.
Also, in my previous post I forgot to mention, that I think Ben Kingsley bears an uncanny resemblance to Terry O'Quinn, of Lost fame. And more importantly, I didn't win $1.5million today.
Now, what movie to watch next. My butt grows ever larger.
